Re: Movie Thread
Death Rides a Horse (1967)
One real badass spaghetti western! If I had to come up with the top 5 Lee Van Cleef spaghettis, this would definitely be one of them (others would be Sabata, Day of Anger, For a Few Dollars More and The Big Gundown). This is a surprisingly dark movie, considering the time period when it was released. Awesome performance from John Phillip "Diabolik" Law too! Those hypnotic blue eyes really fit the character. 9/10
House on the Edge of the Park (1980)
I never liked that much of The Last House on the Left, but this giallo version of the film, however, is very enjoyable sleaze. Alex (legendary David Hess) is a car mechanic who likes to rape and murder women in his spare time. He teams up with his retarded co-worker Ricky (also legendary Giovanni Lombardo Radice) and they go as party crashers to an upper class party and torment & rape the hosts. Absolutely laughable writing and dialog, and one of the most ridiculous "twist-endings" ever. But that just makes the charm of the movie. 8/10

I think you nailed it. These modern movies are perfect for nimrods who have to come up with some "deeper" meaning in their consoom products so they can reaffirm their fine taste on social media, thus elevating themselves above the brutish masses.Lindsay's Liver wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 8:48 pmI think that modern movies are made for audiences who want to feel smart. Capeshit is stupid, but they often bring enough "social consciousness" to feel like they're good for something beyond mere entertainment (Whedon). Or they go "dark" and "serious" about extremely pedestrian themes (Synder).
This is basically one of the core components of Jar-Jar's mystery box.
Ridley Scott also got hit hard with this when he tried to turn his Alien prequels into pseudo-philosophical bullshit.
And Star Wars got hit full force with this cancer when TLJ came out. Muh "visual feast", and all.

I find the current trihard shit to be less mature, if not insecure, than even 80s action schlock.
I'll check that giallo movie out, Veris. Sounds right up my alley.

Rape within the first few minutes. Now that's how to start a movie.

Which is why Hollywood had to steal it for their "slasher" thing.
