Re: Movie Thread
I didn't notice that Anita was a black woman in the recent Cruella movie. And then my eyes rolled.
And then I see she was ginger in the animated movie. Every fucking time.

Servers those gingers right for not having a soul.
The finale takes place in the ruins of the Overlook Hotel and is basically one long montage of "DO YOU REMEMBER THE KUBRICK MOVIE?!"

Re: Movie Thread
It's set in the same continuity as Kubrick's film. They get a Jack Nicholson lookalike to show up for five minutes.
But the director also had to make Stephen King happy, so there's elements of the original book used, like Jack yelling "will you take your medicine, pup?!" and the Overlook finally burning down.

And that was the least of the movie's problems. Seriously, who the fuck wrote thIs shit? But regardless, it is somewhat of a problem.CuckTurdginson wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 5:38 amI didn't notice that Anita was a black woman in the recent Cruella movie. And then my eyes rolled.

Aside from the woke checklist, what is the purpose of changing one's race/gender in these reboots? It might not seem like a big deal at first, but then you realize that hey, what was wrong with how the original played out? Sure they might play the same type of character, but there was no need for change of face. It works with Will Smith playing the Genie in Aladdin because it's a fucking Genie.
It doesn't work here because 1) if this is trying to be a canon prequel to the 90's Dalmatians it can't work because there will to be two Anitas, so it's either one or the other. 2) you re-arrange ginger and you get...
2 1/2) I hate to say it, but it really seems on the nose to make her black, I mean come on. There is no other reason.
And don't get me started on the gay dude again.

Re: Movie Thread
Spent the weekend marathoning the Godfather movies.
Basic thoughts: the first one was very good, 2 & 3 not so much. Both of them came across like belated epilogues that merely serve to tell the audience "yeah, becoming a mafia boss bites you in the ass".
There's some interesting stuff in Part II about Michael Corleone destroying his own father's legacy, but it's entombed in three hours of nonsense about the Cuban Revolution. It doesn't feel as immediate as the New York families all closing in on the Corleones like you had in the first film.
And ofc Part III is legendary for its missteps(although I do have a soft spot for Pacino's more elaborate performance).
