According to Deadline, 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg has signed on to direct the next installment of the popular franchise, while writer/producer Patrick Aison (Wayward Pines, Jack Ryan) will pen the screenplay.

So Predator 5 was written by the dipshit who turned capitalist defender of democracy Jack Ryan into a socialist Clown World hero, and is being directed by a member of the Bad Robot cult. What could possibly go wrong?

Also, the writer was hired in November and filming begins at the ends of this month. That's some quick turnaround, and I'm sure it won't affect the quality of the movie at all.

Having a sequel to the last one (featuring Predator Man and his sidekick Autist Boy) would've still been cringy, but in a more tolerable way.

I think that theaters will come back because people like to go out. Chains like the Alamo Drafthouse were expanding before the pandemic hit. It was super popular here.

The movie industry hasn't REALLY tested the viability of theaters lately. "Tenet" came out when a lot of major cities were still locked down and the news was still scaremongering 24/7. Every major release since has been streaming on the same day. The only movies exclusive to theaters are a bunch of "Fuck You, It's January" sort of releases. Nobody watched the Oscars because nobody even recognized most of what was nominated.

What happens with "Black Widow" will be interesting to me. They are streaming it on release day, but, last I checked, it's going to be a $30 extra charge on Disney. If reviews and word-of-mouth are good (unlike "Wonder Woman 84"), it could get people out.

They'll have that on torrent within the hour. This is another reason why studios don't want to make the leap to streaming only. Good quality rips from day one.
