I remember seeing Pat on AVGN and thinking "Who the hell is this? I guess he's here because he owns rare games, because it sure ain't because he has charisma." Nobody had heard of him before that.

As unlikeable as Pat is, I guarantee you he got a ton of people watching him from that. Exposure really is everything. Some people will eat whatever random garbage is put on a plate in front of them.

Well, there you go. That was the first place I've seen him. I mean, I've seen him on YT before that in recommended videos but his dumb mug together with the name never made me click a video of his. Even back then >muh NES was stale as fuck and I never cared about the console in the first place.

Only burgers and japs gave a fuck about the NES. No one game a fuck about Nintendo in Pal territories until the SNES. I found out recently the NES came out in 1991 here in Australia, while the SNES came out in 1992. NES games are fucking awful to play now because of no saving and having to play the whole game in one damn sitting. That and the level design from the arcades meant you were playing a game with at most 1 hour of content but because of the cheap, trial and error bullshit difficulty it would last way longer.
