My current theory is that they are definitely not in any sort of "romantic" relationship with each other (likely haven't been in long time, maybe never were) and Phelan wants out but he's too scared of Lupa to pull the trigger on it.

And here I was slightly wondering why they do so few crossovers anymore. The last few almost always had Brad as well, so it's easy to assume he was the guy the other two wanted to actually crossover with.

As far as i remember, Phelous is butthurt at Doge too, because according to Doge the reason To boldly flee was a giant turd can be entirely found in Phelous' "special effects".

On the other hand, losing Brad Jones is going to affect him greatly.
