It's the same problem here. The state/fed lets the dead wood stay in the forest because it provides a habitat for animals. But the bitch of that is, the forests now are just covered in old, dead, dry, rotten wood/brush. And when the summer hits, the slightest spark sends up a blaze that burns down the entire state.

It's bullshit and it speaks to a fundamental problem with the way conservation efforts are carried out around here. We need to pull out the dead wood and reduce the risk of forest fires. Sure some habitats might be lost, but it's not like we're clear-cutting the fucking forests. Besides, forest fires will do a hell of a lot more damage to native species than removing dead wood will.

Every country idiot knows that you clear the dead wood and brush from around your house so you don't burn down in the summer. Basic fucking shit.

It's like how we killed the logging industry because "MUH CONSERVATION" even when they were replanting. Yes, clear-cutting is bad. The proper approach is to cut, rotate and replant. It makes business sense too because you ensure sustainable crops for the future.

You'd think shitlibs would be in favor of clearing dead brush too, considering muh global warming talking points we hear constantly.
