Its like someone trying to make an edgelord type of joke, but they fumble it and you're mostly just confused.

Also they really can't truly 'riff' on DBZ, at all and I think this new episode really highlights that.

Aw, c'mon. In canon, that seems to be the more likely explanation for how she managed to extract two children from her retarded husband (who agreed to marry her without knowing what that meant). Of all their very meh jokes, the ones about rape are the only one I give them a pass, because no one else will do them anymore. If they make people feel uncomfortable, that's a plus.

THe problem I have is Toriyama was fully aware of what he was making halfway through Namek. Re-read the manga, Toriyama was throwing in self-depricating/self-aware humor in the series long since then. Not saying DBZ was some sort of self-aware masterpiece or anything by that means, but Toriyama was giving the finger to his earlier concepts outright by the Cell Saga.

Tien's "Fuck Powerlevels and fuck you!" wasn't that far off from what Toriyama originally penned. Hell, there was a joke Toriyama threw in the manga where he admitted to photocopying a page 3 times and telling the editor he could deduct those pages from his paycheck.

TFS's approach isnt only "Let's be tongue and cheek with DBZ", because ,as established, the tongue was so far embedded in the cheek to begin with that it was almost penetrating skin, but it was also "SEE?! We're SELF AWAREZ AND MOCKINGZ IT!" really loudly, as if to declare their intelligence over the original material... when the original material was already self-depricating.

You could say similar stuff about Yu-Gi-Oh!, going thru the dub I noticed a lot of the that sort of stuff.
