Supposedly, Russia has been forced back from some areas. None of it is verifiable by independent sources. But it's plausible enough.

It's greatly overstated for another money grab, though. Those news hit, next day you've got big talks of more gibs because those previous funds supposedly helped to facilitate this big win.

Two days later, Krusty blames Russia for some bombing of a "civilian" facility because they have run out of military targets to bomb to shit.

Overall, tactical retreat is what I'm thinking. Remember that the Ukraine has basically bot a single working military facility left in the east and Russia has total air superiority aside from the Stinger systems and I believe five Roland tanks (Ground to air FLARAK turret mounted on a Leopard, basically).

As long as NATO proper doesn't directly engage, Russia will have the longer breath and get exactly the eastern area they have been claiming to begin with.
