I've never played any Star Ocean myself. But I distinctly remember seeing a bit of this one, being exposed to that name, and thinking "Holy shit, somebody, somewhere, at some point in time thought it was okay to name a character 'Edge Maverick.' Jesus Christ." I genuinely wasn't even sure if you were going for the reference; I was totally open to the possibility that you were just making up some dumb bullshit that happened to match up.
