I agree. I'm a little bit superstitious and bragging like he's done fills me with unease. It's like very bad karma. I know it doesn't make sense, but there were a couple of times in my life where I felt pretty sure of myself and that things were going my way. And then everything was stripped away.

I mean, you UK guys did the self-deprecating and self-loathing thing for decades. Without any counter to that, finally everyone decided to just take it as fact.

Germany's problem is that it's no longer different enough (like West Germany) to be separated from its prior name change, so everyone reverts back to Germany = Nazis dumbassery. They've also been too stable and successful. Italy hasnt been a real threat to anything in centuries. Ditto Austria and so on. France and Russia went from conquers to losers in only a few decades, within their respective timelines. And having come back.

I would say you need to wait another 20-25 years for the 100th anniversary of it. At that point any veteran possibly left alive will be some old WAC who can't talk.
It takes about a century before it just turns into a reverse meme and parody of itself.
