What I never understood was why the fat guy never lost a single pound.
I guess the island did it.

Re: Non-cape tv show
You insisted I elaborate on why I liked it. I did. You couldn't even come up with a reason for why you think the mystery didn't work out lmfao. If you can't be bothered giving any basis to your own arguments, just say soKugelfisch wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2023 6:34 pmI don't insist on you defending your shit taste, you do.

You're mistaken if you think I'm arguing. I don't care to convince a contrarian here.
What would you want me to "elaborate" even? You know the ending, you know the lose ends. Do you want me to recite them and then say "I think that's shit"?
Do you want me to offer a better ending or something? I won't. It's pointless. The show presented itself as a mystery to uncover and it really wasn't. I won't put more effort into it than the writers.

I know the ending. The ending was fine. I didn't have any loose ends, save maybe for the numbers and who was shooting at them from the outrigger (although the latter isn't really directly plot relevant).Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2023 11:42 pmYou're mistaken if you think I'm arguing. We know all about the DHARMA Initiative. We know about the Others. We know about Jacob. We know why the plane was brought to the Island.
Unless you're dumb enough to want a breakdown on why the Island exists and what the nature of its supernatural properties are, there's nothing else that needs explaining. Everything relevant to the story being told in the show is there onscreen. Hell, they even released an epilogue to wrap up the Walt thing.
It's like David Lynch - everything that needs to be there, is there.

Re: Non-cape tv show
I think people made the mistake of assuming this show is a mystery drama set in our normal world, when it's made fairly clear early on that it isn't. From episode 4, in fact. Locke simply can't start walking again in an environment identical to our world. Therefore, it's a world where the supernatural or advanced technology/nature exists. Which makes it a fantasy world.
So with that in mind, would you want every facet of a fantasy world laid bare to the most gruelling detail, or would you rather have all the answers to plot relevant mysteries and leave the nature of the world itself somewhat hazy, ripe for discussions and theories? Where's your sense of wonder?

Re: Non-cape tv show
Revealing why the island is there and it's supernatural properties is pretty much the whole of the mystery. The writers going all "lol we don't know either" is absolute hack shit.
It is set in our world. Which is what makes supernatural events notable in the first place. Are you absolutely retarded? Do you think that if there are supernatural events all bets are off and it's some parallel universe where just about anything can just happen and never need explaining because "it's a fantasy world"?
It is far from anything Lynch ever made. You don't watch Mulholland Drive or Lonely Highway and think its a story set in the real world even five minutes in.
It's downright insulting to Lynch to compare a show made by bumblefucks that had no concept besides a rough outline and just made up shit as they went along to something with a lot of thought being put into it and planned through from the beginning.

Re: Non-cape tv show
I watched Killing Them Softly. It was gay as shit and made me question why the fuck I even try to watch movies made in the last 15 years. Ever. The music choices/lyrics had a very bad habit of mickey mousing the (painfully obvious) themes of the film. Somebody needed to consult Tarantino on how to sync a soundtrack that evokes your intended mood without literally describing the thesis of your film in the fucking lyrics to the song playing over that part of your movie.
Every character in the movie is shit and poorly-written. The fat fuck Tony Soprano shows up to say off-color things, be fat and do nothing. The big reveal of the film (what fucks up the robbery plan and leads to the deaths of the major characters) happens OFF-SCREEN. The whole movie is so fucking in love with itself because of muh DEEP PLOTS referencing the 2008 recession, bank bailouts and 2012 presidential campaigns. Oh wow, it's almost like the business world is linked with the criminal world guys! It doesn't matter who did it-what matters is the public confidence! OH MY GOD THIS WRITING IS SO GENIUS.
I cleansed my palate with Rififi and Le Cercle Rouge. Both fantastic films. Absolutely recommended if you like heist movies to any degree. I can't say which I prefer, honestly. Le Cercle Rouge has a perfectly bleak, matter-of-fact tone to the whole affair. But Rififi has film noir style in spades.

No, what makes the supernatural events notable is that the characters aren't aware of the existence of the supernatural. That doesn't make it our world.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 1:42 amIt is set in our world. Which is what makes supernatural events notable in the first place. Are you absolutely retarded? All bets weren't off. There were clear boundaries on what could and could not happen. The entire drama of the final season is based on this. The Smoke Monster has to navigate around the rules set by Jacob to accomplish his goals.
