So at the beginning of the month, I got a package stolen. Unbelievably, this is the first time this has happened to me. Somebody in my apartment must have stolen it. The apartment manager doesn't seem to care at all.

So I contact the company, and they're making me go through a bunch of bullshit. Even though I clicked the $1 insurance option when I bought the stuff. (Blu-rays). So I had to check the post office, make a missing package report through them, make a police report, and finally I have to fill out a PDF from the company (RightStuf).

Is this normal? Are other companies like Amazon better about these things?

Amazon themselves usually just replace whatever because they have untold amounts of money and it's less of a hassle.
But for most companies, that sounds about right. They will have to show something to their insurance

I've bought from Rightstuf and never had any issues.

I'm assuming they're being so stinky with you because they get tons of scam buyers. You wouldn't believe the levels of bullshit people get up to on places like Ebay and Amazon. They'll purchase stuff from you and then lie, say it's broken and file for refunds. They keep the item (which never was actually broken) and get their money back too. A lot of sellers are fed up with people like that. It would be nice if every person were honest, but that's sadly not how the world works.

Many sellers will flat-out state they refuse refunds. Unfortunately, saying so doesn't make it true. If a scammer files a chargeback or complains to Paypal for a refund, they may decide against you no matter how much the facts are on your side.

Amazon is known for being very hassle free, but they would probably tell you to eat a dick if it's not their fault and they don't offer insurance.
