I don't like the guy but this is a move that would make me respect him. The fan base deserves no better.
The fan base would pretty much just move on. The shitty TV series and its ending more-or-less killed any appetite for his book, if it ever comes out, in the first place.
I don't think the GOT/ASOIAF fanbase is anywhere near as rabid as, say, the Harry Potter fanbase is/was

Seems so, but for some reason GoT fans were directly annoying me with their shit way more than Hairy Pothead fans ever did (they went fairly quiet here after the last actual, non tie-in movie). Maybe a regional thing?
Plus JK already did her part in pissing off her retardo fans.
It's a trap!

Maybe. Harry Potter fans piss me off way more than GOT fans with their shit and their constant comparison of everything to Harry Potter. Now, yes, GOT fans do it too with their 'It's just like Game of Thrones' but at least that was a fictionalisation of English history and therefore halfway there to something reasonably intelligent. Not like Harry Potter fans with their constant comparisons to juvenile wizard boarding schools and gay Merlin analogues
JK Rowling coming out against the transgender shit has got to be one of the funniest fucking things of all time. It was hilarious to see all these mentally ill fucktards who based their life around the series, suddenly go into suicidal fits and talk about how they're unclean because the author of their favourite book series turned out to be a horrible transphobe

A TERF, even. Which might be worse..?
Anyway, that was the first time I saw this acronym so I always consider JK as the TERF Zero.
But it was probably around before, but I don't keep up with the newspeak.

She was certainly the first prominent example of making harassing a woman halal with the TERF label.

And yet most of them are still Potterfags, if I'm not entirely mistaken.

I'll never understand how so many people just cling to some franchise.
The closest thing to a fandom I could be considered to be a part of is perhaps Star Trek. Yet I've got absolutely no issue considering it over.
What's the deal with that behaviour? Why do they always want more when they know it's just going to be shit?

The internet is full of autists who base their entire online existence around their favorite bit of kids' entertainment. They take that shit hilariously personal.

Yeah, I don't get that. I've never had this whole thing of defining myself with some interest. To me that's just an interest I have or something I like but it's separate from my core identity, for a lack of a better way of putting it.
Being a Trekkie for example is a foreign concept to me. What does that even mean and where's the cut off point for that?

Reading Borg porn that is totally not inspired by
Tetsuo: The Iron Man?

I've never liked people who treated it like an insult if you dislike their favorite show, game, or whatever. Like, who cares?
Though I guess I have to thank modern hack fraud film makers and game devs. They throughly cured me of every little bit of useless nostalgia I could have ever had since it's always guaranteed that anything based on old IPs will most definitely suck major balls.
And that's, whatever, really. I'm not attached enough to any fictional character or franchise to care.
New Star Track is mega gay? Alright. Watching reruns of classix and/or moving on. Being a "real Star Wars fan" seems to be really difficult right now because just moving on and not giving more money to Disney just doesn't seem to be an option for them.
