But I guess if you wanna be really pedantic, then Monster Hunter is obviously a fantasy version of Gunstar Heroes (focus on boss battles while still having regular "levels" as filler between the bosses), with gameplay bits and pieces inspired by Metal Max (upgrading over grinding), Ys (combat) and Mega Man (defeat bosses to get stuff)
