You know, sometimes I can't help but feel like the "epic" scope of To Boldly Flee was at least inspired by "helpful" suggestions from Linkara. Could explain why the guy loved it so much he made its own sequel, his recent complaints about Doge never listening to his genius notwithstanding.

Would he though? Dude had an actual budget so the AVGN movie could’ve been alright if he kept the story grounded but he had to have zombies, giant monsters, terrible practical effects, cameos and other bullshit.

Making a movie about AVGN was fundamentally a bad idea. The Nerd isn't an interesting character, the whole appeal of the concept was based around the games the viewers were already familiar with and nostalgia. Nobody gives a shit about the skits or any non-game related content. I don't think that even any actually capable director/writer could have made the concept work. Well, maybe Takashi Miike could have. Maybe.

Why not?
Have him to be accountant or some other shitty job flipping burgers, make build up out of it with some 10 minute origin why he's doing it, show shitty wife and bull prep. Then have him try to review some games, but he notices he reviewed all shit there was and make him to go for a quest to find shitty game. Or him feeling like he burned out and has to find inspiration again and after whole adventure he comes to terms that it's over and should end, because there is nothing that would make him passionate again about it, because he doesn't care anymore, thank all of the fans and for one last time make short 1 minute review of a game he likes. Then say thanks, bye and feel relief it's over.
There are ideas that don't even require much money, let alone 300 fucking grand and it's not some kind of a big task.
I mean, you can do fucking anything with character that basically doesn't exist and is clean fucking state. Rofle chose licking his own balls with shitty plot.
