Why would you hire people to fight against you?
Everybody sucks Gary Kurtz's dick, but it's not like he was constantly shooting down bad ideas, plus he got fired because he let Empire go massively over budget. OMG, master producer!

Labyrinth is peak cinema.Guest wrote: ↑Fri May 14, 2021 9:07 pmOr else he should have stuck to producing. His producer credits are much better, overall and much more accomplished, than his directing credits.
Nobody wanted to work with him because he was also a shit producer. He was bossy and micromanaged every director he ever worked with. He hypocritically denied these directors their creative freedom while demanding that for himself. We've heard stories about George's notes: "Make him sound like Truman Capote", "change the name of that character to my son's name", "Call the villain Darth Icky", and that probably only scratches the surface.Guest wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 3:02 amIn his defense, he tried to get others to write and direct the prequels but everyone turned him down.
Yes but, even if you set out to find people like this, once you become a Lucas or once you become a Peter Jackson or whoever and you've got a certain amount of proven success, even competent people will hesitate to second guess you because they think 'Well, that's not the way I would have done it, but clearly this guy knows what he's talking about so I'll let him get on with it'VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 6:53 amYou generally try to hire people due to their expertise, so they can give you valuable input and warn you if you become too autistic.
It's not hypocritical at all. Lucas hires you to direct a movie, you've been hired basically to direct his movie. This is why David Lynch didn't work with him.Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 3:49 pmNobody wanted to work with him because he was also a shit producer. No. If George wanted creative control, he should have directed those movies himself. But he was too lazy.Guest wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 11:59 pmIt's not hypocritical at all.
