Then again, Doge was always retarded.

I watched the whole thing. I didn't laugh. Not onceLiar Revealed wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 8:18 pmThe show just seemed like filler until episode 8. Too many dumb, aimless episodes about getting drunk or high.
Y'all might want to skip to ep 8 if you've given up... plot starts to actually happen.

Re: "Cartoons"
This is the hardest kind of show to critique... comedy that isn't very funny.
I can't really explain why it isn't all that funny. I only have theories.
I believe it does have the same problem as late era Simpsons and Futurama, the priority of lots of cheap gags over character development.
I'm also wondering if I was wrong to complain about wet-blanket, nagging characters. Because maybe you do need a straight man to be funny. Because everybody is "the wacky one" in this show.

If everyone's wacky, then nobody is. It's the same reason why Seltzerberg-style parody movies suck. You need a straight man in the ocean of madness.

I might agree that it has the same problem, but it's different manifestations. Futurama and The Simpsons have like 50 try-hard jokes crammed into a scene whereas this will have maybe ten, but it's ten jokes where you can see the set-up, joke and punchline all coming from a million miles away.Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Mon Aug 20, 2018 3:57 pmI believe it does have the same problem as late era Simpsons and Futurama, the priority of lots of cheap gags over character development.

I've started Season 7. This line must have been cut in syndication as I don't remember it.

There's nothing sympathetic about Bean. It's all Jerkass Homer humor crossed with who-cares convenience.
Simpsons (and usually Family Guy) temper their shenanigans by having characters actually care about their friends and family. The only hard rule Simpsons writers learn, actually, is that Homer always loves his family, no matter how crazy or destructive he gets. Most of the family (except for later season Lisa) can evoke a certain pathos, or at least act like people with real emotions and behaviors that stem from them.
Fry is a sympathetic character. He's trapped in the world of Futurama really through no fault of his own. Only hes optimistic enough to avoid the suicide booth and make the best of it, because he's always lived the future. Despite his flaws, he's an admirable protagonist.
Bean just decides she wants to screw off responsibility and a normal (if dull) guy to marry because she doesnt want it, then makes excuses that it's all about finding herself. This might be salvageable if we knew more about the connections she had. Did she know the elf in previous adventures? Does she owe Lucy for saving her in the past? Instead they seem to just show up and act like whatever, giving us no reason to emotionally invest in characters that seem to have no justification for being extremely fortunate.
TL;DR. It's like watching a bunch of people wander through Disney World. The attractions are no stakes and doesn't affect them at all. They can act like entitled and unlikable Lindseys because the environment caters to them and it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks of them for them to stay.

You'd think 10 episodes would be enough to establish shit and come up with good jokes.
