Though I assume the troon players hate it for the same reason disabled people don't like the idea that wheelchairs are superfluous in any setting that has clerics (which are pretty much all of them, safe for a period of time in Dragonlance).

The thing is, the cleric excuse doesn't really fly well anyway. To repair a lost limb, the minimum you'd need to cast is a regeneration, which is a 7th level divine spell and requires a 15th level cleric or druid to cast it. Those certainly don't grow in trees in most scenarios, and the ones that exist probably arent available to heal the general public.

Even if we consider that a wizard could create some sort of cool magical mechanical limbs to help, that would certainly cost a hefty amount of gold, way beyond the means of any commoner or specialist.

If those "Good"-aligned Paladins don't spend their fortunes gained from dungeon-crawling to help poor cripple kids, then I fear they have to fall.
