This board's software is old junk. There's no real way of telling guests apart via IP, nor an easy way to monitor IPs and what posts have been made by a certain one.Guest wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 6:37 pmsee, here's what I don't get: if you can monitor who comes and goes (I assume by looking at our IP's), what's stopping you from just banning ASS-clown's IP for good? does he just keep changing it or do I just not understand how this works?
It's all user-based, not IP-based. Meaning I could look up all IPs "guest" has posted from but not which posts a specific one made. I doubt any mod here even bothers looking IPs up. I certainly don't.
That aside, it is simply impossible to actually ban someone on the internet. Just switch your IP via VPN or proxy and you're back.
We'd have to ban all VPN networks, which isn't something we can actually do. Only the spam detector of phpBB can do that.
We wouldn't do that anyway, since nobody here should post without VPN because of glowniggers.
His actual home IP has been banned for years when his account was banned. The only effective thing is to switch to registered users posting only because banning an account is just four clicks, making registering even a throwaway more tedious than it is for us to nuke it.
None of this is deep insider knowledge. Anyone that ever administered a board with this ancient software knows this.
