VHS was never good, it was just cheap. Betamax was better. As for pure viewing Laserdisc was where it's at.

VHS isn't a case like Vinyl or tube amps where somebody can make the argument the older technology was (maybe even still is) better. VHS looks like shit, sounds like shit and falls apart from normal use.
VHS tapes were blurry even on a CRT. I remember the first time we got a dvd player and I was able to actually see shit on the screen.

Let these dumb zoomers enjoy VHS tapes. After the third time they have to wait for the tape to rewind before rewtching their favorite goyslop, maybe they will realize why we turned to digital and never looked back.

Not even that. When you rewind the tapes enough times, they literally break. Normal use will destroy VHS tapes. Theoretically, a dvd (and especially a blu-ray) should last much longer.

That's what makes it authentic, man. Only VHS lets you see movies the way they were meant to be seen.

Tube amps sound great and they work. Solid state amps have been sounding very good for a good while now but they still sound different. It's basically down to preference. Both sound more than good enough.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 5:41 amVHS isn't a case like Vinyl or tube amps where somebody can make the argument the older technology was (maybe even still is) better.
Vinyl and CD is a completely different ballpark. In terms of technical capability, the CD is far superior in many regards and still ahead in the others.
However! CDs get a different mastering than Vinyl and for at least a good decade an inferior one.
With Vinyl outselling CDs and yet CDs never having become an enthusiast's medium, Vinyl always saw more care by producers and record labels.
Today, absolutely nobody goes for CD for the best possible listening experience. If you go digital, you go with FLAC files. Why even bother with the disc?
And you get a Vinyl for a more esoteric, tactile experience and the large cover art. They just look much better as a collection. Plus it's a physical medium that will long outlast you.
