It's certainly a breath of fresh air to have a president who has enough balls to trigger China. For decades, the Communist Party has been untouchable to the west, with every mutual press conference being carefully worded to only mention enough about muh democracy, muh human rights and most importantly muh fair trade relationships* to appease the people at home. The biggest betrayal anyone ever did was give the Dalai Lama too much of a spotlight, but it seems they've learned their lessons a couple years ago.

*) You can tell this is the most important bit, since China has been promising for years to open their market. Of course, nothing ever comes of it and they keep gaming the system.

And western businesses use Hong Kong as a buffer to do business in China. It will kill most of their trade if they invade, and they need US business more than the US needs them.

We're also talking about ideology vs money here. China's party line brainwashing shit right now is that HK is part of China and belongs to them by right. So you have to ask yourself if that indoctrination and enforcing that belief to the world is worth more than the buffer zone HK provides to people trying to buy and sell to China.

Like guestposter, I remain unconvinced China won't go for the autistic ragefit option. Commies love their fucking indoctrination. And yes, I know China is not economically communist anymore, but they still are socially.
