They're triggered in the short term because the government wants to cut certain subsidies and tax breaks to keep their budget in line, and in the long term because the government is too impulsive when it comes to the grand keikaku of reforming the farming industry.

Tell me about it. I was stuck for over 1 and a half hours because the police blocked everything for a corso of over 3000 tractors.

The state wants to cut the subsidies on agrarian Diesel and discontinue the green license plate for agrarian vehicles that allows them to pay very little taxes. Which is fair because harvesters and tractors barely spend any time on the road, so they should pay little tax, which is intended for road mending.

Especially the SPD is going to get absolutely fucked the next election.

Not surprising either, seeing as they just keep losing members to more radical socialist parties.

*) Effectively every German party has some kind of "junior club" where I guess they can shelter future career politicians from the cold, harsh truth of reality. At least that would explain the dumb shit they like to spout. Then again our news media only ever talks about them when they do spout dumb shit, so maybe that's on purpose.
It's a bit like an analogue version of social media activists.
