Sure, but make no mistake that they always wanted it. Bureaucracy has always been the hurdle and they are working hard to get around it entirely.

As Eugene McCarthy once was quoted by Civilization V: "The only thing that saves us from the bureaucracy is its inefficiency."

And I disagree heavily. The inefficiency of our bureaucracy was what was saving us from authoritarian politicians just doing what they want on a whim.
The change to the infection protection law will allow states to just implement whatever they want, circumventing the need to pass laws and go through the motions.
It's the end of bodily autonomy.

Thanks for the info. It's not like we have mentioned this for several pages now.

Our politicians have been pondering about the pro and contra of vax mandates since the start of this mess. They're just getting a bit more serious about it.
And you should know that there's a difference between what our (future) chancellor/_*:ette wants and what he ends up getting.
Is a mandate possible? Maybe. Can and will they actually enforce it, and if so, how? Who knows.

No, what they told you was that of course the German government wants to be more authoritarian but, because of bureaucracy, they can't be.
I know you're dumb and shit, but this isn't a hard concept to understand

I really do not think Germany (or Austria) will implement these coercive measures. Of course they look at China admiringly and would like to have similar power, but in countries where the doctrine of the division of power operates (and where the people are armed) it is quite difficult to embark on such a path.

All this would really accomplish is to make those Querdenker even more batshit.
