Actually what she did was compare it to Pearl Harbor AND 9/11. This is one of those cases where a person says more than they meant to.

After all, with Pearl Harbor, FDR knew that Pearl Harbor was going to be attacked and let it happen anyway to give him justification to go to war. And with 9/11 if we're being generous the Bush administration at least knew Arab terrorists were planning an attack on US soil and had the World Trade Center in mind and in the very least did nothing to stop them, and it gave Bush his justification for the War on Terror leading to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Where were the Capitol Police? Where were the National Guard? They knew there was going to be a big protest that day, why didn't they beef up security? If the 'insurrectionists' were such a threat, why did the Capitol Police that were there open up the barricades and let them through? We know they did this because this is on video. Why did they open the doors to the Capitol Building? The door to the Capitol Building is magnetically locked. You couldn't pry it open with your bare hands and even if you tied one end to a car and pulled you wouldn't be able to pull off those doors. They're very secure. So someone must have opened them and let the people inside. Why did they do this? Why hasn't all the security footage of the event been released if this was clearly an insurrection? Why is it that none of the people charged have been charged with insurrection, just trespass and disrupting an official proceeding? There's these and so many other questions about that day.

The politicians are saying stupid shit because they're politicians and they're trying to advance an agenda. It's possible that some of them genuinely feared for their lives but it's more likely that it's just theater, like so much of politics is. AOC saying that she feared for her life and feared being raped when she wasn't even anywhere near the Capitol Building that day is the perfect microcosm of this shit.
