It's not only the economic sanctions on Russia, if Wendover Productions is right:
He was mostly correct and doing great right up until the conclusion.

Oil companies are not having one last "party" of profit taking, by limiting production, before wind and solar replace them.

Oil companies (specifically those here in the US) are halting development and production because they know the end game of Leftist fuckery is the total nationalization of the oil industry. Why spend money on infrastructure and equipment when it will all end up like those Mob casinos in Cuba after Castro came to power? Might as well take all that cash as profits now and get while the getting is good.

The oil industry isn't stupid. It's one of the last areas in Corporate America where the leadership still has some intelligence. They know that both the government and culture are actively hostile against them. All it takes is one politician with a pen to shut down everything.

(Ironically other industries like restaurants and movie theaters got a taste of that with the coof lock down. "Aww, this business is your livelihood? Too bad! The state has decreed it closed!")

Everyone involved knows how this plays out.

-Price Controls
-Rationing
-Nationalization

Why invest in something if the state can steal it on a whim?

Alternative energy isn't even close to meeting the needs currently met by oil and gas anyway.

Sure, but we're talking about investment decisions made considering ten or twenty years down the line.

Not sure if the alternative energy will ever be up for the job. During sunless, windless times it won't matter how many collectors and turbines there are.
Batteries with the kind of capacity needed for that don't really seem feasible so far.
It's a trap!

Watch until 10:50. There isn't enough Lithium on earth to store the green energy in Musk's batteries, and even if there was it would cost $100 Trillion for all of earth's population and that's ignoring maintenance and it's just for the batteries on their own. At 13:00 he also goes over how much it would cost to make enough wind generators to store green energy and that was 30 trillion for all of the earth's population. Wind and solar aren't replacing shit, Nuclear and Hydro Electric actually fucking work but cronyism is more important.

I don't think they expect a complete switch to renewables in the short to medium terms (and who knows what happens in the long term), but certainly a noticeable drop in the demand so to make oil futures less profitable. It also can be just a short term strategy to realize profits and that in 5 to 10 years shale extraction will look attractive again. In any case, high oil prices in the short term can only benefit them, so they're in no hurry to lower them back to 2019 levels.

There's really no good way to store large quantities of "electrical energy". Can't just pour that shit into barrels.

I guess there are creative replacements for wind...

Reversing a decision by predecessor Donald Trump, President Joe Biden has approved a Pentagon request to redeploy several hundred American troops to Somalia for what the National Security Council calls "a persistent U.S. military presence" there as part of counterterrorism efforts.
