Shallow prestige bullshit. The industry's focus is on hydrogen. They aren't willing to take a 20% hit in cargo capacity or the insane cost of replacement batteries.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 8:06 pmThere are plans for e-trucks. They will fail, but they're are a thing.
Again, I'm not saying electric cars will disappear. For a small, zippy city car that doesn't rack up a lot of mileage or pizza delivery cars that quickly return to station all the time it's just about perfect.
But for trucks it's ludicrous. You already can't pack a truck just wall to wall with heavy goods. Trailer walls don't just hold any weight, so you lose space by fixating it in the middle. Then you also have to balance the weight load on the wheels. Trying to pack all those batteries in there is a nightmare. Plus, what's when you change the trailer or drive without one?
I've seen Tesla's concept and it's retarded. They have proven with their Hyper Loop that they are scam artists, not shying away from collecting grant money for ideas that are total non-starters. But even they, the kings of bullshit claims, only ever talked about the great acceleration the truck could have. Go ahead and ask anyone in the transportation business if they give a fuck about the trucks reaching 0 to 90 km/h two seconds earlier.
But hey, it only comes at the cost of 20% less capacity volume, about 30% less in usable volume and a couple less tons of load capacity. Totally worth it.
