They always fuck around with numbers. Are they going to pretend that the USA doesn't have an insanely high population which would lead to having a higher overall total? Italy and Spain have a combined population that is a third of the USA's, and their numbers together are higher than the USA's. According to this at the time of this post the numbers are:

Spain + Italy = 165,707
USA: 123,750

When you take into account the USA having more people and pretend Italy and Spain combined have the same population you get this:

Spain + Italy numbers adjusted: 506,060

That's over 4 times worse. With way less deaths. Use rates of infection rather than raw numbers you disingenuous hacks, it's not the fucking 90s anymore people can use the internet to debunk this shit.

Trump's approval rating is up. The people who lost their jobs want to go back to work. Then there are people like me who are still working, but also feel like we could get the axe any day now. Aside from the toilet paper business, few fields of employment feel safe right now. The only ones who want us to stay home for the next six months are those who can afford to do so.

Trump's optimism speaks to people.

The Democrats, dedicated to being contradictory to Trump in every way, are then put in a very awkward position. They have to be pessimisstic. While it's only a seat for the state, it shows the problem that Dems are having. For non-burger people to understand, California has it that the primaries are technically combined. They make it so that the top 2 vote getters in either primary are allowed to go to the general election. So as you can see it can be only one party running for the general election. That is how they held their grip over the state for decades. Run up the score in the primaries to make sure no Republican ran in the general. This time though, the Republicans have the top 2 vote getters so they are running in the general thus losing a seat by default.
