It's baffling to me why anyone goes behind a paywall today. The biggest podcasters in the world are all free to hear somewhere.

I used to really like Anthony Cumia. I subscribed to Compound for awhile, but let my membership go when my bank card that I was using expired. I coulda updated, but didn't. One reason why the paywall model wrecked him, I think, is that one of the funniest things about Anthony on the radio is when he fought with callers who thought he was a Nazi. Behind a paywall though, his entire audience are now people who like and agree with him. Without any resistance to his rants, he just melts into a puddle of Dice impressions and references to fifty-year-old TV shows.

He can't even make fun of his staff too harshly because he's barely paying them anything and the credit for working for him is less than prestigious, so nobody's going to take the abuse. At least O&A interns could just put "SIrius/XM" on their resume.

That's nothing to be impressed by though. One walk at the school's theatre club and you can see enough people say big words from the early age of 12 or something and sound like mature adults and super smart kids with a pokerface in front of hundreds. I can tell you from experience because the other club members gave me shit because I tried to do character acting shit for fun and the others wanted me to "take it seriously" so the plays always came out looking like 10 stonefaced children who either autistically learnt the entire script or lipsynced to the audio in the background while one goofy asshole comes out and plays their character, giving everyone whiplash. It's why I accidentally made everyone laugh when I was in Midsummer's Night Dream because everyone was so stiff and robotic and "mature" and I just played Theseus as if I was Vinnie Mac ready to 3:16 Austin's ass.
