It's 'cause bitter narcissists took over. After the 90s, the "We are all equal and should learn to get along" that has been hammered into me by fiction everywhere got replaced with people effectively going "Black skin good, white skin bad" and "Some human races are more equal than others".
They put less and less effort into hiding their blatant favoritism, and it became crystal clear that those crying the loudest about supposed "privilege" are in fact the most privileged assholes in town.
And they're no longer shitting on just white people. You don't love looting and don't have the right melanin concentration the media doesn't give a shit about you (until they can use you to shit on white people).
All that identity politics has accomplished is put race relationships at an all-time low, and I can't be the only one thinking this is all going according to keikaku.
