Movie was produced way before the current Russian kerfuffle.
Yes but the CIA/Hollywood's beef with Putin precedes the current situation by many years, as you yourself are alluding to. They publicly accused Russians of stealing the 2016 election, even though it was a complete lie, and they've never been shy about depicting Russians as villains in movies.

They're really the only ones left for video games and movies.
Especially 'cause they're (mostly) white.

Probably still not enough to warrant the full Bond villain treatment back then. After all, they still haven't made Trump into a bonafide villain himself, only alluded to in that dumb Wonder Woman movie (that has an obvious Trump expy). I wonder if Hollywood will somehow attempt to ramp up the anti-Trump and anti-Russia propaganda if the Dems get crushed in the midterms, in preparation for 2024.

They can't risk triggering Trump Derangement Syndrome like that. Any theater would devolve into an orgy of tears, urine and blood.

Add "shit" to that and it seems right on the Jewish alley.

Please spoil me on the Val Kilmer cameo. How long is he in it, what does he do, and does he have lines?

Actually, ironically, Bond movies tried to avoid using Russian villains. Bond always fought Spectre or some nondescript terrorist organisation in the movies, even though he fought Russians in the books, precisely because the Bond people didn't want to unnecessarily demonise the Soviet Union

But that character was a Trump expy going back to the 80s, before TDS

Do they dub his voice or let him use his real fucked up tracheotomy voice?

He’s got like two real lines and one scene. Totals maybe five minutes.

Honestly, the only thing theatrical about it IMO is the action - which is mostly pretty good. Aside from that it’s a comfortable rental.

I think Cruise had too much input honestly. It’s like these late period Cruise movies where he’s basically shadow directing - so Top Gun 86s biggest asset cannot be allowed (being campy and fun) because Tom is an a r t i s t. There’s definitely some ego there.

As for the CCP appeasement, it really doesn’t affect the plot - you wouldn’t notice unless you looked for it.

Well, removing all the gayness of the original is a very noticeable form of CPP appeasement.
