Apparently Comic Scott yanked Cartoon Scott from the past because he and Comic Ramona got divorced or something, which is what caused everyone to think that Cartoon Scott is dead.
I think this is less FF7R and more your typical Current Year obsession with multiverses.

It'd be much funnier if they just continued it. Just throw out a trailer for A Land Before Time 15, obviously 3D animated, as if everyone knew what was going on.
