I wouldn't even say he's badass. Just too stubborn to die.
The problem with the character--and those like him--is lack of consistency. Homer and Stan occasion have jobs the writers occasionally remember they're supposed to do. The rest....forget it. Overall they have little on the way of responsibility, and no reason to carry it out.
They live consequence-free lives at the expense of others. If they dont care who likes them....why should we?
I would actually rather see Randy as a geologist at his dull job getting annoyed at the office by small things outside of his control. Then having to deal with odd phone calls from his son at his desk.
You know....like real life.
As Watterson once put it, "Things are funnier when they're specific, rather than generalized."

Re: "Cartoons"
Yeah. For an example, I forgot that Peter even worked at a brewery, much less when he used to be a fisherman and especially when he worked at the toy company with the deceased boss, Mr. Weed. And of course the writers forgot, so they had to find a replacement or two after Carrie Fisher passed.
Seems like after the dreaded "Lorde arc", they completely forgot about how Randy was a geologist.
Now that the show has gone on for too long, they con do whatever with the character because fuck it.

Maybe Randy lost his job to the geologist guy from the future and never got it back.

If I remember right, Randy lost his job as a geologist after drinking the Obama Kool-Aid and telling his boss to fuck off when Obama won.
Randy is now a marijuana farmer. It seems to be a permanent change to the show.

Kind of impressive. Going from the edgiest cartoon show to "dude weed lmao" is quite the feat.

Matt and Trey should’ve quit South Park and focused on filmmaking, over a decade ago.

Still waiting for Team America 2.

The South Park gig provides them with stable cash and they only have to work about ten weeks a year, giving them the other 42 weeks to marry black women and raise their black stepsons.JL Unlimited wrote: ↑Sat Aug 14, 2021 12:22 amMatt and Trey should’ve quit South Park and focused on filmmaking, over a decade ago.
A lot of shows (and movie franchises like Hammer's Dracula) tend to continue on past their sell by date not because the creators don't realise that they're hacks (although there's some of that) but because most of the people who work on them are just ordinary people, and not mega rich celebrities, and keeping the show going is the best way to keep those people employed
