Re: "Cartoons"
Nomura is gay and whacks off on his audience.
I could have done a goofy (hurr) recount of what I remember about KH but I thought that would have been hack even for me.
What is it called when a long running franchise has to invent problems in prequels to justify more sequels?
I don't read books so I don't know which of the big fantasy/sci-fi franchises did that so my two examples are KH and Votoms.
Because my mind tells me that despite all the autism and homosexuality KH 1-CoM-2 is a perfect circlet of autism with an actual ending and everything and Votoms by itself is a self contained TV show.
But then in KH3 its all about the Unbirthed from BBS the prequel and revolving around characters who where invented in midquels just to give Sore's fake self a cocksleeve, and I stopped watching Votoms at Shining Hearsay but I think everything at some point revolves around concepts invented in midquel OVAs like the Green and Purple Child and Pailsen.

Re: "Cartoons"
It's called hack writing but a nice example of that would be the Terminator franchise trashfire. That series is all about inventing new bullshit in the past to justify (very badly) why they couldn't leave well enough alone.

I think it says a lot about me that I think about KH and Votoms but Terminator doesn't show up in my mind at all.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 11:42 pmIt's called hack writing but a nice example of that would be the Terminator franchise trashfire. Yes, and that was unfathomable. Doing cheap-ass follow ups to big blockbuster films that brought them in millions, and then releasing them straight to video where they've only got one source of revenue.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 6:29 am>Disney sequels upon Disney sequels
Remember when they used to confine this shit to the direct-to-video market?
On top of the pointlessness of it, it's just bad business sense

But good general sense in thinking that "Snow-white and the 7 Dwarfs 2" would be utter hack shit and would cause a reputation hit as a cinema movie.
Disney used to have standards.

Sailor Moon and the Seven BallZ 2 on the other hand...Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 11:51 pmBut good general sense in thinking that "Snow-white and the 7 Dwarfs 2" would be utter hack shit and would cause a reputation hit as a cinema movie.
I was going to say the fans did too until I remembered that they didn't.
Re: "Cartoons"
They really didn't. They made those direct to video sequels on the cheap because they wanted to milk those shekels as quickly and cheaply as possible. Had they actually had standards, they'd have done, say, Aladdin 2 big budget, theatrical and actually put some effort in.
It's not about reputation. I mean, thankfully they never did Snow White 2, but they actually put out most of these films and so were obviously okay with diluting the brands
