Hitting all the klessiks in Evil Racist White Guy aka Lovecraft stories.

Pickman's Model. Now here's some good shit. Does a nice job of highlighting the sheer scope of ghoul activity without showing an actual ghoul in the flesh. No way you could do that in a modern adaptation (which would be full of black people, anyways).

The Dunwich Horror. Probably the one I've heard the most without actually knowing what it's about. One of the more "action-packed" stories, and feels the most like something Junji Itou might one day adapt.

The Colour out of Space. Another Junji Itou candidate. Very creepy shit.

The Whisperer in Darkness. Basically a vastly superior Signs. Though there's some point deduction in order because it ends with the protagonist running into the most obvious trap to have ever trapped. No way a Call of Cthulhu party would fall for that.

At the Mountains of Madness. Ice. Mutant penguins. Tentacle monsters. What's not to love here?

Whisperer in Darkness is one of my favorites. Most loveraft protagonists fall into obvious traps, because nobody expects Cosmic Horror or Evil Cults until it's too late.

There's one thing to fall into an obvious trap, but he ran into so many warning signs on the way I'm shocked the story didn't mention a literal warning sign.

It's been ages since I read some pulpy-ass pulp shlock. Maybe not so long if I count Warhammer 40k. But I've been feeling the mood for some John Carter of Mars or Gonad the Ballbarian. Always fun when authors don't give a fuck about making sense or pesky realism and try to be as EPIC as possible.

Capeshit doesn't count because EPIC implies stakes and capeshit never has any

Reminds me of when I read The Drifting Classroom. There's a lot of unexplained nonsense that is never explained and only happens to get another bunch of kids killed.

Yes but anime sucks ass, while pulp novels are cool.
