The problem with a TV show adaptation of Slaughterhouse-Five, other than the fact that there's already a film adaptation that Vonnegut loved, is that the basic premise of "WW2 veteran's linear perception of time is shattered and he spends his post-war years randomly hopping around his unchangeable timeline" is something that cannot be stretched out to TV-show length unless you make up a lot of stuff that isn't in the source material.

Kaufman might've been able to pull off a good film adaptation. However, I agree that a TV show adaptation, no matter who is at the helm, is doomed to suck.

Nope. The novel is about 200 pages long and has a pretty solid narrative.
