There's an episode of Columbo where he talks about wanting to novelize one of his cases, and I can't help wishing the producers had used that as a framing device for an actual Columbo book. Could you imagine? He'd be the most rambling narrator there is.

For all its flaws as a book (it may be one of the worst slogs I've ever had the displeasure to read through), Atlas Shrugged describes the scariest dystopia I've ever seen - because it's the most realistic one. Ayn Rand describes a world descending in abject decadence by a gradual but inevitable drain in talent, skill and ingenuity caused by pure resentment - and we are on the earlier stages of that already.
