I had no idea why they were so obsessed with that until I saw a work colleague of mine with a very pointy nose similar to comic Cleopatra. It does look rather fetching.

Well, if it's not one of the two titular characters there's a good chance he or she has a different name in every translation because of the pun-heavy nature of most of them.
That is unless you count weird shit like the very first German translation from the 60s where everyone had a different name and the whole setting got moved east to Germany for some reason.

That's alright in principle but Dogmatix is lazy as fuck. Sounds like a robot dog as imagined by early 80s cyberpunk faggots.

Huh, and apparently I was slightly mistaken. Almost every translation that isn't the English one uses some variation of "Idefix" for the doge.
Probably the worst case is the chieftain. He's "Vitalstatistix" in the British translation and moterfuckin' "Macroeconomix" in the American one (because of course the two English translations use different names for most characters).

Re: Non-cape tv show
in Estonian, he's "Pealix", which roughly translates to "Chiefix". Seems the most reasonable to me.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 9:17 pmHuh, and apparently I was slightly mistaken. Almost every translation that isn't the English one uses some variation of "Idefix" for the doge.

Meanwhile Krauts, Swedes and Greeks use "Majestix", which fits with how pompous he tends to be.

Would've worked for English as well, sounding not just like "majestic" but also "mayor".
I don't mind localised names at all. But putting "dog" into the dog's name is lame. Could've at least used "canine" in some way.
