I think that was more to do with preventing Sony or anyone else from getting their hands on it. Because Xbox is really hanging on by just its fingernails and, like you said, CoD still sells even though it's garbage. If Sony bought them they could effectively squeeze Microsoft out of the console market if not the industry entirely

Never underestimate the nostalgia fags that will consoom anything as long as it has a familiar brand name attached. Then throw in some stupid kids that don't know any better and you can at least break even. Seems to have worked for both Star Trek and Wars to some extent.
