I go back to these regularly. They're like comfort food, man. Some of the slickest, rawest blues rock riffs.

It's the weekend and so it is time for yet another post about Death Metal.

However, this time it'll be something I think all of you can enjoy on some level, so actually hang around. I swear it's worth your time.


The band I'm presenting to you today is called Arghoslent.
They are a Melodic Death Metal band from Virginia and they are notable for several things.

Firstly for their absolutely unique sound that has had a couple of copycats emerge over the years. Their guitars with harmonies and solos aren't at all the usual Gøteborg sound.
They are more influenced by New Wave of British Heavy Metal and Bluegrass of all things.

The other notable thing is that they are white supremacist and their lyrics are super turbo based.
But they are so damn good that even lefties listen to them begrudgingly.

The lyrics are mostly about 17th to 18th century empires and the inferiority of niggers. But never in a flat, mouthbreather way.

Chugs in slowly, has a small bass only part at 0:20 and then gets really going to never stop.

Awesome galloping riffs carry you to a slowdown at around 2:30, which ultimately leads into a blues solo at about 3:25 that is so good, Gary Moore would get a swastika tattooed on his chest, was he still alive.
Right into the ending riff and yet another short solo.
The fucking audacity of the boys!

Lastly, let's get back to Hornets of the Progrom for the song The Nubian Archer.

The happiest Death Metal riff you ever heard opens, gets more serious once the lyrics kick in. Then turns into a glorious victory hymn at 0:50.
At 1:40 we get another amazing solo!
2:30, another riff change into a somber mood at 3:00.
4:12 gives another riff change in this prolonged breakdown to culminate in a solo at 5:00!

Did you think the song was going to end like that with that happy starting riff?
That's why they fucking rule!

There are a lot of NS bands in Black Metal. But the music blows or is the same shit other Black Metal bands play, just with slightly edgier lyrics and often worse production.

But Arghoslent is too good for the scene to ignore.
If you liked what you heard, give those two albums a shot. They only released four so far and tend to go many years between.
Galloping through the Battleruins, their first album, is also good but not quite there yet. Resuscitation of the Revanchists is also good, but I'll have to give it a few more spins.

You're not supposed to, unless you know the lyrics. The more indecipherable the lyrics and band logo are, the better the Death Metal. Easy rule of thumb.

Death Metal isn't a genre for tourists. Gatekeeping is a virtue and shit like that is the most effective faggot filter.

A bit of context. House of Atreus is a Melodic Death Metal band. This is from their first album and it's the last song of it.

That's significant because the song itself starts out as downright Black Metal until 1:30 for a solo that is just a tad too, well, melodic for Black Metal.

But it cycles back. It's almost approaching White Metal even. After the solo, the Black Metal kind of riff starts to sound more and more like a sound of noise you'd expect from Shoegaze.

At 2:45 the tremolo picking suddenly stops and we get the same melody with palm mutes for the first time. Not jarring yet, but that'll come!



3:10 we get a break. Only cymbals and rhythm guitar are heard but, as you won't know at first, the guitars switched to 6/4 time signature, somewhat masked by the lead guitars seemingly interrupting with a bridge.

The song is a masterclass in making the most out of a single melody! It manages to keep things interesting.
