Ultraman 80, the final Ultra series of the Showa era. It initially tried something unique by having the Ultraman be a teacher who's only a part-time member of the defense team, but they eventually dropped that and just made it a regular Ultra series. Though you can bet the teacher stuff comes up during his rare team-ups (like back in Mebius where he felt bad for "abandoning" his students).

Now 80 himself doesn't have many outstanding gimmicks or special attacks (aside from being able to shot an even stronger beam from his "belt" buckle), but you can really feel the 5 year production gap between this and Leo. Everything just has a bit more fidelity to it, and the fights just feel like they have a bit more oomph and energy behind them.

I watched the fairly-recent "City Hunter The Movie: Angel Dust". Well-made stuff, but almost all the cast sound elderly and tired. Only Tessho Genda's Umibozu still sounds good.
The ending says that it's approaching the finale. Approaching? Good god, they're going to drag this geriatric cast out even longer?

This anime introduces the final big boss of the series, Shin Kaibara. He is also called "Mayall" which I think is a mistranslation. I think it's either a Portuguese or Spanish word meaning "elder" or "leader". Meiyōru メイヨール

Keep in mind the chucklefuck behind this is trying really hard to convince people that this time he's actually "respectful" of the source material, and that it's not part of his "Bootleg Universe" (aka "Let's give Rayman guns and have him say fuck a lot, because that's funny").
For extra lulz, Lady only uses her iconic bazooka once as an improvised club, and has no issues going by her real name even though she hated the name given to her by her father in DMC3.

Watched a "new" anime. Spikey-haired kid who grew up in the wilderness is super strong martial artist beyond his years. Meet a slightly older girl and is amazed because he's never seen a girl before and does inappropriate things like flip up her skirt. He's excited to find strong guys to fight. If this sounds familiar, it's because it's actually a remake of Gosho Aoyama's totally original manga Yaiba.
Well, only one episode so far. I never saw the original anime, but the same voice actress returns to play Yaiba. I kind of like it.

Another new anime, Sword of the Demon Hunter has two episodes out. Kid trains with a sword to kill demons. His little sister is secretly part demon with one red eye. Yeah, this sounds familiar too, but It quickly deviated. It looks like it's going to be more like Highlander with the MC fighting demons in different eras.

Should I watch Mysterious Thief Saint Tail? Never heard of it but might want to try binging an old anime like the old days.
