Hereditary (2018)

Aargh! The next time I add something on my watchlist I'll certainly check two things before: the length of the movie and is it slow paced. I can't fucking stand this +120 min long snail-paced art-crap anymore. This wasn't really even a bad movie, the last half hour was very intense and stylish horror (until the very end, but I'll get to that), but the first hour is incredibly slow paced with loooong shots where NOTHING happens. When I checked the remaining runtime I was sure the movie was just about coming to its end and I was shocked that I've only watched 60 minutes of it! One full more hour of this shit?! With tighter editing and quicker pace this movie could've easily been 90 min fruitful horror movie.

And when it comes to movie criticism, is all of it just pure shilling these days? Film critics have very widely praised this film and called it the best horror film of the last decade, the plot of the film has also been hailed as very intelligent. I don't know, the movie surely does have its moments, but is this really the best that current horror films have to offer? The final twist is also incredibly stupid.

So, the main character wasn't insane or anything, it was this mysterious cult that was pulling the strings behind everything. Ooooh, how original and intelligent writing, except that all of this has been done in the past with much smarter scripts in movies like Rosemary's Baby and Wicker Man.
But oh well, it was just the final minutes that sucked, the build up for that was indeed quite intense and definitely the best part of the film.

There hasn't been a good horror movie in the last decade. Or the one before that.

If only Lupa would actually make a movie...

I watched the 1979 sci fi cult film "The Black Hole". Terrible cast (even Anthony Perkins is phoning it in) and script, but it has such an anachronistic, earnest "film epic" kind of feel along with a good sense of humor, so I couldn't help but be drawn in.

Very flawed, but goes in an interesting direction and is full of WTF moments, making it great for watching with friends.

Can a Disney film really be "cult"?

I'd argue it can, because most people will know nothing about the movie or consider it a massive bomb from a time when Disney was still known for quality.

I only know of it because of the classic Gottlieb pinball machine of the same name. The majority of people that know the pin don't know it's a licensed machine.

I love "The Black Hole". To me, it's almost like a "family friendly" Hammer horror movie, but made by Disney and set in space. I don't know many others who like it, Young people seem to find it slow. I'm comfortable calling it a cult movie. It has its little audience of appreciators.

Good music score, too, by John Barry. I have the old vinyl.

If you think Hereditary ripped off Wicker Man, check out Midsommar, written and directed by the same fuckface that made Hereditary. Midsommar is an even bigger ripoff.
