Did Palpatine want to save padme? She was a fellow Naboo and helped him get into power and didn't
really thwart his plans, and even helped anakin fall to the dark side. He wouldn't have given it an honest try even as a favor to Darth Vader? He didn't seem like he had any particularly strong grudges towards padme. He doesn't really seem to be lying as it's revealed in the sequel trilogy, he does a lot of force cloning experiments and stuff. He could have cloned her body and transferred her spirit somehow if things didn't go so badly on Mustafar that he had to rebuild Darth Vader.

Padme was anti killing children so she had to go. Plus she was already 95% of the way towards turning on Anakin when he force-juggled her.

This would have been better illuminated if the subplot of Padme forming the rebellion had been better incorporated into Episode 3. Would’ve given her something to do other than cry and die, too.

Maybe the upcoming Rey movie will reveal that her mother was a Padme clone, thus legitimizing her claim to the Skywalker name.

(Even though the secrecy surrounding their marriage meant that Padme technically never became a Skywalker)
