How bad is Lex in this? I've never been a fan of 3DPD Lex casting beause they always pick an actor who looks too young at best and like a total twink at worst.
They're always a far cry from the DCAU version where he's not only smart and cultivated, but also built like he could handle himself in a fight against Batman. Those live-action version just never quite have the same presence as him.

I believe the line was he was to “conquer earth, rule over it and take many wives.” It is worth noting that his arc is him deciding to be nice to everyone anyway…after he gets a pep talk from Pa Kent. Both the Kent’s are alive in this, and that was a change I actually liked; the pep talks good.

So Superman is a violent immigrant, who gets raised as a good boi by his red state farmer adopted parents.

On to Lex, he is reasonably calculating; and while Gene Hackman is a better actor, he wins points for a weirder, more elaborate villain plot. I would need to go back through the cartoon series to see if Clancy Brown ever lost his shit like this Lex does a few times in the 3rd act of this movie.

Of the big three, none are turning in bad performances; extended to Lex. This dudes *leaaaaagues* above whatever the fuck Jesse Eisenberg was doing. I would love to see this interpretation of the character with a cooler head, and they’ve definitely set it up so he can come back.

From a script point of view, Lex does suffer from the movie being too crowded. His motivation is that he hates Superman because he’s jealous, and tobefaire; I’m reading through Red Son, and that’s almost the exact motivation Stalins illegitimate son has for hating Suupes. It does seem like hating Superchad for fucking their bitch is a common villain motivation in the comic universe.

From a script point of view, we only know this because Lex trauma dumps in the third act, if Gunn hadn’t structured the movie to be super crowded/open in medias res; maybe we could’ve seen a moment where we see Lex trying to solve a problem he’s been working on for years and Superman does it in like ten seconds. Idk.
