And of course it wouldn't be a Mitchie M song without beetus-inducing J-Pop tunes. Can't help but feel that his stuff has gotten a bit samey as of late.

But how balanced is the power system?!

Nobody fucking cares.

It's fine. Based on magic bullshit, so you can't really go wrong because it's literal magic anyway. Main character is an OP sagewizard. Secondary main character is a street urchin who obtains a magic relic after "capturing" a dungeon (basically grave robbing.) There are two main ways characters have power in this world:

Magic, which is like DnD magic in that it requires a lot of study and practice.
Or magic items. Typically these are items which contain either Djinni or are blessed by Djinni.

Magi takes its cue for Djinni from the 1001 Arabian Nights, so all these Djinni are magic beings created/imprisoned by King Solomon. So far, Magi hasn't had nearly the amount of black slaves cuckolding muslim husbands though.

There is one third "class" of magic and that's what the Magi use. Basically though, it's the same as normal magic but they're allowed to Spirit Bomb in order to collect magical power. Their magic is intuitive rather than studied and they make use of stored energy from the planet to cast. Think of them like DnD Sorcerers. That's what the main character is.

Edit: I just realized Magi are Dark Sun Defilers but without that whole "fuck the planet" part.

Well Fairy Tail managed to fuck this up. Everyone there is a mage as well, but they're all so hyper-specialized af they're effectively Devil Fruit users from One Piece. There aren't even "generic" spells (aside from using magic to drive a fucking carriage without horses).
Until I've dropped the manga out of boredom I've only come across two characters that used the same kind of magic, and that was only because they had the same teacher. But you'd think Ms. Ice-sensei would teach their students spells that might be useful if ice spells do jack shit.
Sure they're have also been, like, 2-3 summoners, but once again every summon is one-of-a-kind.

It's basically a poor man's ripoff of Fullmetal Alchemist that forgot why the alchemists specialized, which is extra weird 'cause FMA's excuse can be directly applied to magic in general (spells are rituals by default and would take too long to be useful in battle, so everyone prepares their favorite spell(s) ahead of time in the form of reusable items befitting their fighting style).

Mages are mages in Magi. They differentiate mages by specialization in magic type, but it's not a hard lock to learning other schools. More just a case of "you are better with fire magic but you can still use water magic." It's all spirit magic at the end of the day, since the power is derived from The Force (it's called rukh but it is literally just the force.)

He's happy to call the other characters "white" and will absolutely call himself "Asian" with no further differentiation. He shouldn't get pissy about categories being broad.

The Naoki Urasawa/Osamu Tezuka anime project Pluto has dropped on Netflix. Looking good so far. It's an expanded adaptation of one specific story arc in Astro Boy.

It was pretty solid sci-fi. This manga it was based off of is from 20 years ago, so there are expys of George W. Bush and Saddam Hussein and references to a middle-eastern war.
