I had a huge folder full of tentpole capeshit that I was going to get around to watching. Yesterday I finally just deleted it all. I simply have no interest. I only kept the Guardians of the Galaxy Xmas Special because people are raving about it so much.

Same reason westerns died. They've stayed dead, too. Hopefully a sign of what's to come for capeshit. Especially considering westerns are way better (in quality) than capeshit.

I know. I'm aware the genre died because of so many assembly-line, cookie-cutter westerns. I'm saying that even the stuff people laugh at, like Bonanza, is better than Mahvul capeshit.

People laugh at Bonanza? I thought Bonanza was pretty good. Certainly iconic.

Thing to consider with Westerns is that you're looking at a much bigger body of work and also we're talking about a time where filmmaking was much better, certainly more competent, than it is now. Hollywood now is completely creatively devoid. When Marvel finally dies what's going to replace it? Something equally shit no doubt.

But for every Stagecoach, every Good the Bad and the Ugly, there's like half a dozen singing cowboy movies that make Iron Man look like Citizen Kane. Our problem is that we've got something not quite but very similar to recency bias

Bonanza is iconic, sure. I just meant that it's kinda cheesy and silly. People laugh at OG Star Trek (faggots do anyway) and that has way better storytelling than Bonanza imo. Honestly though, most of the tv westerns I've seen were pretty alright. Have Gun Will Travel, Wells Fargo, Gunsmoke... There are a ton of other ones I've seen but don't remember the names of. Most of them, if you see them playing on broadcast tv, they're not too bad. I can't say the same for capeshit. Almost every capeshit movie made since 2010 is a pile of wank. We've been churning out steady garbage in the capeshit genre for nearly 15 years.

I won't defend those cowboy musicals though. I have a soft spot for Oklahoma but the others can get fucked.
