Decided to give Amazon’s adaption of Cross a shot, it mostly sucks. You have a solid cast, but the typical current year tropes. Opening scene has a white guy race baiting, the case being burn loot murder/fuck the police related, and shit like the victim being a muslim convert who was force fed pork before death and an overly ambitious white police chief.

One good moment was Cross asking the oxymoron of who does a defund the police if he beats his ass, but they’re not gonna give a concrete answer. I like the books a lot (although I haven’t read them since 2013 or so) and in this current climate I can’t recommend the character be adapted. Just go watch Luther or something.

Alex Cross is a great literary character, especially a black one, but god forbid you do a black character now in current year.

Nobody had a problem with black characters that were done right - tell me, has anyone ever said they wouldnt watch Lethal Weapon because of Murtaugh? I still remember an attempt in the mid 2010's to portray blaxsploitation as racist. And, no, those movies aren't always fantastically made, but something like Dolemite is crafted with so much fucking joy that it's definitely infectious.

Apparently there's going to be a Malcolm in the Middle revival. Only Frankie, Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek are attached to come back. These constant revivals are definitely tedious, but I liked Malcolm in the Middle - quite a bit, actually. That might be one of my favorite shows. I'll likely watch the revival, even if its just for the two parents, but I want his brothers to come back. Reese and Dewey both seem to have retired, I think Francis (non-rapist Masterson) is still working, but who knows what shit his brother drug him into.
