I've gone through series 8 of Red Dwarf, and Back to Earth.

8 was truly bad. There were very few redeeming qualities (the Cassandra episode, Holly, Kryten).

Back to Earth was... okay. I appreciate the sheer audacity of breaking the fourth wall to such an extent, and some of the plot twists were really cool. It just wasn't remotely funny. The actors felt very rusty.

Am now watching series 10. So far, it's a total return to form. Just as good as the old days. Better, if you consider the upgrades in production. So I'm pleased as punch.
