I bet there are people here who don't even know who Marc Maron is. Leftist California comedian. He got in early in the world of podcasts from comics who interview other comics. His show was big enough that he and Joe Rogan were considered rivals for awhile. He once had Barack Obama on. Now, he's ending his show after sixteen years.

As Marc Maron ends his legendary run on the WTF podcast, he’s decided to go out with a bang, not a whimper. In his latest episode, Maron unleashed holy hellfire on “all these anti-woke comics” while acknowledging that those comedians had accomplished exactly what they wanted.

“I see ‘em around still doing trans jokes,” he said. “You won. The trans people have no right to live the life they want. In some states, it’s legislated. In others, it’s just based in fear.”

“Same with women,” Maron said. “Anti-woke policy has destroyed any sort of pathway to try to give the vulnerable and the marginalized a leg up in the world, under this umbrella of anti-woke, which was the big to-do with all the comics.”

Maron is talking about those stand-up comedians who complain about not being able to tell certain kinds of jokes anymore. They fought back hard, and now “thousands of people are living in pain and fear and unable to live a free life in America and get the care that they need,” Maron argued. “Hope those jokes were worth it.”

Anti-woke comedy has been a thorn in Maron’s side for years now. In 2023, he shook his fist at C-list comedians who cried about cancel culture. “A lot of people who whine about being canceled, no one can give a shit about,” Maron said on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast. “It’s a hack point-of-view. If you want to go up there, and hammer liberals or trans culture or LGBTQ, like, it’s just hack. There’s a type of comic mind out there, and they think they have to go up and address trans people. You don’t. You’re just getting juice from it.”

During his latest rant, Maron concedes defeat. But what he doesn’t understand about anti-woke comics now? “When do you stop doing the jokes? I mean, you won, you broke it. You broke a lot of people,” he said. “When do we stop doing the jokes? All that DEI stuff, that threatening, horrible sort of idea of trying to make democracy work? It’s all gone. You did it. You did it, fellas. You helped out with those jokes. It’s good, right? It’s great.”

Maron was on a roll and couldn’t stop. “And all of those jokes about immigrants,” he continued. “It’s awesome, right? Just seeing people ripped apart, seeing all that pain caused feels good for you guys. Right? This is what you wanted. Half the population in fear and in pain, and unable to live a free life in America. Just so you guys aren’t uncomfortable with people that are different from you.”

With that off his chest, Maron finished his rant. “Awesome,” he concluded. “Anyway, good morning.”
