Re: Non-cape tv show
Do any of you nigs like martial arts movies or is it just me? I was watching Five Deadly Venoms the other day. It's just a shame most of the Shaw brothers stuff is either not available, very rare or doesn't contain the original audio. The movies are a lot less cheesy without the shitty 1970s dubbing.

Some really awesome shit came out of Hong Kong in the late 20th century and nobody seems to give a shit about it anymore. It might have something about Hong Kong being returned to China in '97. I'd imagine movie companies went under or got bought out by Chinese conglomerates that don't care about it. There's probably stuff in legal limbo, or film elements being stored improperly or thrown out due to Chinese cheapness.
So sometimes I'll find stuff HK movies for sale on DVD or Blu-ray, but you never know what you're getting. Nobody in China gives a shit about selling a quality product. So a DVD might turn out to be a non-anamorphic Laserdisc (or videotape) rip. Or a Blu-ray is just an upscaled DVD.
So I wouldn't buy anything physical media without researching it thoroughly. I now download from https://avistaz.to/, but it's a private tracker torrent site.

The last episode of Better Call Saul was awesome. I've been waiting to see Mike and Saul together, and having them survive in the desert whilst being hunted was great, the show taking another step towards Breaking Bad.

HK made fucking assloads of movies in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Some of them breddy gudd. Seems like nobody cares about film preservation though. I'm slowly tracking down DVDs from groups like Dragon Dynasty, which I don't think even exists anymore. But the list of films that simply aren't available in any format is much greater than the list of films which are. I'm finding out that I really like Chang Cheh's movies. Especially in their native language. But again, many of these have been poorly preserved. CCP China makes mostly shit and the martial arts have degraded vastly since their heyday in the late 70s and early 80s.Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 10:06 pmYeah... sigh.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 9:33 pmDo any of you nigs like martial arts movies or is it just me? The only Chinese movies worth watching are historical movies.

Re: Non-cape tv show
Why are we talking about movies in the TV thread I never got into Chinkshit flicks. I feel like they're an older mans weeb/sinoboo shit, as HK's fate was sealed when I was a little kid and I had animoo to watch instead. I'm well aware of how trash most Chinkflick homo video releases are since my time on ADC. Every movie has like 15,000 different dubs into every Chink spoken language imaginable and then 60,000 different edits with different English dubs that are worse than the first ones recorded. You might get some nasty ass videotape upscaled to Blu-ray like Riki-Oh had for years before some UK fags begged the chinks to do a real remaster. Its just a lot of hassle like everything that involves Chinks.

They were run by Harvey Weinstein so I think they're in limbo right now. They were also not trustworthy (no surprise, it's Weinstein) and often released cut versions of movies, or left off audio tracks. But sadly, they may have been the best of the sad bunch of licensors.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 10:43 pmI'm slowly tracking down DVDs from groups like Dragon Dynasty, which I don't think even exists anymore.
Oh, one thing I forgot to mention is that old Hong Kong movies would sometimes swipe music from Hollywood movies or from popular music. That was back in the day when nobody cared about that shit. So now they have to either pay out the licensing fee (which rarely happens), cut those scenes out, or redub everything if it's to be sold in the USA.

Yeah, I heard they released cut versions and removed Cantonese audio to push the MUH ONE UNITED CHINA mandarin maymay.Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 12:29 amThey were run by Harvey Weinstein so I think they're in limbo right now. Chinks love to steal and the HK films are full of stolen shit. Shame. Like I said, some of the movies are fun. Seems to me like a lot of the films produced by hong kong are going to be largely forgotten or unavailable once DVD is well and truly phased out. A lot of the commentary tracks/interviews are impossible to find unless you buy one specific dvd release (out of print) or someone uploaded it to JewTube.
I don't think China gives a single fuck about the preservation of film.

I should have put this in a movie thread or its own thread, but I wasn't paying attention. I'll probably make a thread for HK movies with a proper op later. 36th Chamber of Shaolin is the best one for newbs.
Re: Non-cape tv show
Even the Hong Kong versions of HK movies are usually cut. You'd have to track down Thai versions of some shit just to get the complete movie.
John Woo's The Killer is the most famous example of ripping off music. Almost the entire score is stolen from Red Heat. (Hollywood later paid him back by stealing the Broken Arrow theme for shitty Scream 2.)
Anyway, if you like Woo try Hard Justice, Albert Pyun's homoerotic Woo "homage" starring American Ninja David Bradley.

I like a lot of Bruce Lee stuff but I have trouble getting past the dubbing - I have the same issue with otherwise great Italian movies.
