I watched couple episodes of the new Witcher series. I was going to pass this one after seeing the uninspiring trailer, but after the show got so much praise I decided to give it a try. Oh boy, I should had known that most praise on the internet is just shilling these days. Shilling or people nowadays will happily consoome anything as long as it's not complete, utter shit.
The first episode really starts with a BANG. I had the volume way too high and nearly jumped behind my couch as Geralt and some swamp-spider creature thing jump on the screen out of nowhere. Geralt next arrives at some pub where a pack of ugly big men are going to attack him apparently without any reason, he prepares to fight but at the last moment a small framed pretty gurl shouts and orders the ruffians to stand back and leave Geralt alone, which they do. She's a boss around here! Ah, I'm so into this already. There are a good galore of strong women here. The Witcher 3 actually had many good strong female characters in it, but they all also had some kind of character, not just being a hollow strong woman totem caricature which needs to be there because current year. Lots of negroes too, which kinda takes away the immersion and annoyingly reminds¨me of.. something.. identity politics, perhaps?
Acting is average at best, writing and dialogue are both horrible. Geralt of the games reminded me of Clint Eastwood, Henry Cavill's performance primarily reminds me of Jason Momoa's Conan. There's a certain pretentiousness in his tough guy act, like he's trying to overcompensate his lack of natural charismatic intimidation with this face down, angry eyes look, grinning under his long hair like some anime baddie. Maybe some find that convincing, I don't. And this girl who plays Ciri, her face is exactly the same in every scene, like it's solidified in stone, whether she's angry, sad, worried etc. She must've taken her acting lesson from the master Steven Seagal himself. Oh the joy watching her scenes where she mainly complains about everything, how everyone are being boring and do not let her to be the amazing super awesomeness she is. Such a fascinating and inspiring character.
Oh well, now that I started maybe I must suffer this season to its bitter end. It must get better, right? Riiight..? Huh, I shouldn't complain too much as I promised to go to theaters to watch something that will quite likely be truly awful during this winter break. That day I'll probably miss the nigflix Withcer.
